ccp, cme and uc…

i got my phones working and of course i got a copy of the ccna voice lab manual from ciscopress because i like to start at chapter 1… i’ve heard good things about this lab manual… i swear by ciscopress lab manuals, they are top shelf…

this guy is a ccna voice…

Brent currently holds the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), CCNA Voice, and
CCNA Security certifications,

this is great… nice to see ciscopress advocating for a guy in the trenches  with a book…

now here’s a thing… i have cme running on a 2620xm and i was dismayed when i got to the ccp section… (not a big fan of ccp) and as i like to always follow the lab manuals through and through i was disappointed that ccp didn’t seem to support telephony on my router, in other words because ccp kluges up its discovery of 2600’s (discovered with warnings!) i was concerned that i might have to skip the ccp sections… but i don’t give up that easily although i found that after discovery, telephony wasn’t happening in ccp… so i dug in a little… i had the router set for 192.168.x.x but i bumped into a config manual that stated for certain routers use 10.x.x.x for ccp… i wasn’t convinced that it’d work but i readdressed the router anyway (the phones reregistered right away with the new addressing; nice break there)… turns out with just  little patience, uc will show up for the 2600xm after this tweak…

notice now that all the telephony shit is there, whereas before it claimed it wasn’t supported…

tip: use create cn in telephony config mode to automatically create configuration files based on your current settings… also, the sep files can be manually adjusted with a text editor, ie. a differently named xml file can be fitted to the mac of your phones and the ip address scheme of your cme… to view the files on the cme router use more (filename)…
