filtering multiple arguments…

i wrote about this one before, but yesterday i forgot it, and then remembered it thanks to stretch over at packetlife… it’s worth noting… if you want to filter  multiple outputs from the cli, simply use multiple “|”‘s without spaces after the intitial filter as below:

R1#sh ver | i 36|Config
Cisco IOS Software, 3600 Software (C3640-JK9S-M), Version 12.4(8), RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)
ROM: 3600 Software (C3640-JK9S-M), Version 12.4(8), RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)
Cisco 3640 (R4700) processor (revision 0xFF) with 124928K/6144K bytes of memory.
Configuration register is 0x2102

R1#sh run | i ver|host|aaa
version 12.4
hostname R1
no aaa new-model
no ip http server
no ip http secure-server
ntp server 120.100.123.3
R1#

note space for first argument… note no spaces thereafter…

be careful what you filter on, you just might get it…

tabbed terminal windows in gns3…

was it stupidity, a lack of inquiry, both, or just that because it worked i left it alone… i think it was stupidity… how long have i been using gns3 with single terminal windows? a long time… if you’re using a nix distro chances are you can download konsole and fix this discomfort…

sudo apt-get install konsole …

then in gns3 set terminal preference to konsole, light up all devices, and click the terminal button on the menu bar and you have this… make a profile to set the background/foreground to your liking…

tabbedterms

note tabbed terms… hello…  rene has a video here:

attack by proctor…

http://cciepursuit.wordpress.com/2008/03/28/attack-by-proctor/

i bumped into these last night and it was a refreshing break… it points to paranoid thinking during stressful times… not that i know first hand about the r&s lab exam, but it seems realistic that for those 8 hours it would be very easy to become deluded by your own configuration… how many times have you done a practice lab where you configured something that appeared broken, and was broken, simply because you misconfigured it… i didn’t do that… actually, you did… it wouldn’t have gotten that way if you hadn’t… i could easily see myself falling into such paranoid thinking at a time like that… kevin wallace in his videos on youtube talks about this phenomenon… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ixhu7TZ7vxE&playnext=1&list=PLDmbik4NbmjJ5kvA-Pzt3mIGanMPw9qS1

he also mentions seeing things that because you believe are there, are there, but aren’t…

like this shit isn’t difficult enough, you also have to consider yourself as a potential enemy in the moment…
